  • You can access the support chat from any page.
  • One of our design specialists can walk you through the Design Studio step by step and help you make selections if you prefer.

2. Pick your plan

Each Villa ADU floor plan is customizable. For smaller units, you can choose the default layout or a mirrored orientation. Which layout provides the most daylight where you want it? Which puts the bedroom farthest from noisy neighbors? Think about what matters to you most when you're hanging out at home. Larger ADU floor plans have even more customization options.

While you're at it, how about adding sliding glass doors, bigger windows, and/or skylights? Play around with all the options to see what feels best.

3. Elect your exterior elements

Next you'll choose the roof style. Does a gable or shed style float your boat? If you selected a covered porch in the floor plan section, you can see how it looks here. Then it's on to a range of neutral siding colors, or you can even go with a custom color onsite to match the color of your primary home. You'll choose between lap siding or stucco here too.

4. Cast your kitchen and bath selections

Envisioning a graphic kitchen with all-white cabinets and black countertops? Or perhaps a soft gray space to soothe your soul? Kitchen choices in the Design Studio include a range of neutral colors for both the cabinets and countertops. You'll also select your countertop material and decide whether to include an island here.

Then it's on to the bath. The standard package includes a fiberglass tub/shower combo, an undermount sink, and antique bronze fixtures. Upgrades include ceramic subway tile or larger-format porcelain tile, a steel tub, and a walk-in shower.

5. Find your flooring

Spills and splashes are no concern in the kitchen and bath with the water-resistant sheet vinyl flooring included in the base price. For the look of hardwood without all the maintenance, upgrade to vinyl plank in one of three natural-wood-look shades. In the bedroom and living room, carpeting comes standard for extra softness and comfort, but you can switch it up if you like.

6. Appoint your appliances

Each of our ADU models comes standard with a refrigerator, an oven/range, and a microwave from Whirlpool. Some also have a dishwasher. The standard appliances are electric, but you might also be able to switch to gas depending on your local jurisdiction.

Heating, air conditioning and a thermostat are included; we can install an A/C condenser onsite for an upgrade.

7. Survey the summary

The last page summarizes all of your ADU design choices and provides a ballpark estimate. When you submit the form, it will go straight to the design team for plan preparation. And remember: Nothing will be finalized until you sign off on that plan later.
